Tony Fuemmeler

Tony Fuemmeler is a multi-disciplinary theatre artist who works internationally as a mask designer, puppeteer, movement consultant, and teaching artist. He is based in Portland, Oregon, and has designed masks for multiple plays and original productions on the west coast. Trained in performance and theater design at the University of Kansas, Tony furthered his investigation into masks and community-centered performance through a year with Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre of Minneapolis. He continued his training with Bruce Marrs and Joan Schirle at the Dell'Arte International School in Blue Lake, California. In 2014, Tony studied traditional mask carving with Nyoman Setiawan in Ubud, Bali, and then worked in Mumbai as a volunteer artist in collaboration with Teach For India and Artists Striving to End Poverty on the musical Maya. Tony finally made it to his first Mardi Gras as a mask seller in Dutch Alley in 2016. Tony has taught mask performance and creation classes across the country for the past 12 years and is a graduate of the Teaching Artist Training at Lincoln Center.  He is also a co-founder and mentor teaching artist for the Teaching Artist Studio at Young Audiences in Portland.
